Distribution: Occurring chiefly west of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to Oregon, also in eastern North America.

Habitat: Heaths, sandy soils, and other disturbed, open areas.

Flowers: June-Sept.

Origin: Introduced from Europe

Growth Duration: Annual

Conservation Status: Not of concern

Pollination: Bees, flies, beetles, wasps

Description:
General:

Slender, low annual, covered with silvery hairs.

Leaves:

Leaves linear, small, numerous, attached spirally up the stems.

Flowers:

Heads in terminal, narrow, conical clusters on the branches; heads rayless, white tinged with red, but appearing yellow from the tips of sepal-like bracts, which spread star-like in fruit.
